In the UK, LanguageCert, Trinity and Pearson charge £160 to £170 for a speaking and listening test and £200 to £230 for a four-skill test; IELTS prices are set by each centre. A result counts if it was awarded in the two years before the day you apply.
Enter the date on your result to see the last day you can apply with it.
GOV.UK says a test must have been awarded in the two years before the date of your application. The date that counts is the day you apply, not the day of the decision.
If your result runs out before you can apply, you usually need a new test. Two exceptions follow.
When an expired result still counts
Citizenship: a B1, B2, C1 or C2 qualification that was accepted when you settled, even if it has run out and the test is no longer on the list.
Settlement: a B1, B2, C1 or C2 qualification that was accepted for another UK immigration application, if the test is still on the current list.
Family visa extension: an A2 or higher result from your first visa, if the certificate has not been withdrawn.
Questions
How much is a SELT test in the UK?
On the providers' own sites on 12 October 2026: LanguageCert speaking and listening £160, Trinity GESE £160, PTE Home £170, LanguageCert Academic or General SELT £200, Trinity ISE £200 and PTE Academic UKVI £230. IELTS prices are set by each test centre and shown when you book.
How long is a B2 English test valid for?
Two years. It must have been awarded in the two years before the date you apply.
My test expires next week. Can I still use it?
Yes, if you apply before the two years are up. The application date is the one that counts.
Can I resit only one part?
Some providers allow it. GOV.UK says to check the provider's terms before you book. Where skills are examined together, every skill must reach the level in the same test.
