Bees on the rooftops

City rooftops have become an unexpected refuge for honeybees. In one European capital, the number of registered hives more than doubled in five years, largely because of enthusiasm among hobbyists and companies keen to appear environmentally friendly.

Ecologists, however, are uneasy. Honeybees compete with wild bees for the same flowers, and a survey of the city's parks found that the supply of nectar-rich plants had not kept pace with the growth in hives. Some researchers now argue that planting flowers would do more for pollinators than adding colonies.

Do the statements agree with the information in the passage?

1.The survey found that nectar-rich plants had increased as fast as the number of hives.[1 mark]
