Questions people ask
How many words do you need for IELTS Writing?
At least 150 for Task 1 and at least 250 for Task 2, in Academic and General Training.
What happens if my IELTS essay is under 250 words?
A short answer may not give enough evidence of your language for the higher bands.
Is there a maximum word count in IELTS?
No. Writing more is not penalised, but it leaves less time to check, and Task 2 counts twice as much as Task 1.
