How this test matches the real one
| Part | Time | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Part 1: Introduction and interview | 4 to 5 minutes | The examiner asks general questions on familiar topics such as home, family, work, studies or interests. |
| Part 2: Long turn | 3 to 4 minutes | You get a task card, one minute to prepare with pencil and paper, then talk for up to two minutes. The examiner may ask one or two questions on the same topic. |
| Part 3: Discussion | 4 to 5 minutes | You and the examiner discuss issues linked to the Part 2 topic in a more general and abstract way. |
This page gives you Part 2, the long turn: the same 1 minute to plan and up to 2 minutes to talk. The read needs at least 60 words, about half a minute of speech.

Questions people ask
Can I take an IELTS Speaking test online for free?
Yes. This page runs a Part 2 long turn on the real timings and gives a band estimate from your words, free once every 24 hours. The full three-part practice set is also free.
How is my answer marked?
Your words are read against the public Speaking band descriptors for Fluency and Coherence, Lexical Resource, and Grammatical Range and Accuracy. You get an estimate for each, one quote and one fix. It is our estimate, not an official IELTS band.
Is Pronunciation marked?
No. The estimate comes from your words, which cannot show how you sound. In the real test Pronunciation is one of the four criteria, each worth a quarter of your Speaking band.
Is my recording uploaded?
No. The recording stays on your device. If you turn on the transcript, your browser's own speech service writes down your words, and only those words are sent for the read. We do not keep them.
Is the real IELTS Speaking test online?
It is always with a human examiner, either face to face or, for IELTS Online, by video call. It takes 11 to 14 minutes in three parts.
